Bailey Homestead: Making the Land Work

A walking tour of the Bailey Homestead Preserve from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. blends SCCF's mission-driven work on the historic property, the history of the land itself and some stories about the Bailey family. Cost is $5 for non-members. Meet at the Conservation Gateway Kiosk at the head of the Shipley Trail, at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. For information, call 239-472-2329.

Sam Bailey's Islands Night

Sam Bailey's Islands Night will be held at 7 p.m. at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. The gates open at 6 p.m., with the parade at 6:15 p.m. The Fort Myers Miracle will play the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Balance workshop

FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Center will host a balance workshop from noon to 2 p.m. at 4301 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel.

Learn about the top commons types of dizziness, three key body systems that are involved with balance, how balance problems impact walking and moving, how to determine the cause of a problem and what can be done, how to gain relief through exercise and physical therapy, and more.

The event is free.

Attendees will have the opportunity to have a balance screening and consultation.

Seating is limited, so reservations are required at 239-395-1097.

All-Levels Yoga

All-Levels Yoga from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Use of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mudra, philosophy, meditation and guided relaxation techniques. Instructor is Dr. Susan Pataky. Chi Yoga

Shorebirds of Sanibel and Captiva

Join SCCF biologists to learn about the shorebird species that nest on Sanibel beaches, including snowy plovers, least terns and wilson's plovers from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Nature Center, at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. Coffee, Tea & Trivia

SUNDAY, MAY 13

Caloosahatchee Oxbow, Riverlore Cruise

Join SCCF on an Oxbow and Riverlore Cruise from 1 to 3:30 p.m. to experience the historic Caloosahatchee. The guided trip provides an opportunity to gain a perspective on the river, its history, folklore, issues and solutions, as you explore the historic upriver Caloosahatchee. Follow the river back to a time when a waterfall served as the headwaters of the Caloosahatchee and settlers braved living amongst the wilderness. Tours are guided by Rae Ann Wessel, a river researcher, historian and SCCF Natural Resource Policy Director. Registration is required. For information, call 239-472-2329.

Experience Virtual Reality

Five-minute VR experience on "Blu Deep Sea" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sanibel Public Library, at 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. For ages 10 and over. One user per session; first come, first served. No registration required.

Shell Crafters

Shell Crafting Class from 10 a.m. to noon at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Make flower figures or animals. Limited class size; first come first served. New Moon Meditation

A New Moon Meditation class will be held at 7:15 p.m. on South Beach on Captiva. Enjoy a guided meditation on the beach as the sun sets and the moon rises. Bring a towel or blanket to sit on. Meet at Alison Hagerup Beach Park, at 14790 Captiva Drive. Cost is a suggested donation of $10-15, with all proceeds to benefit the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation's sea turtle research program.
