San-Cap Optimist Club accepting registration forms for Road Rally

June 4, 2018
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The Sanibel-Captiva Optimist Club is taking registrations for the 39th Annual Road Rally, which will follow the Fourth of July parade. The theme is "Wild About America."

Starting times are every two minutes starting at noon from the parking lot at Timbers Restaurant on Sanibel. Early registrants can select their starting time by calling Randy Carson at 239-699-8739.

As usual, all vehicles will be ranked at the finish by points awarded for the most correct answers to the rally questions, based on sights seen along the designated route, for: a finishing time closest to the committee's calculated times, distance driven closest to pre-determined route distance and extra points for other answers. Prizes are awarded to the winners.

Clues to extra credit answers will run in local newspapers in the weeks prior to the event.

Each year, the rally committee also selects its choice of the Best Decorated Vehicle in the rally.

The proceeds from the event are used to support the club's six college scholarships and other benefits for local youth. Sponsors are still needed this year and will be displayed on participants' vehicles.

Forms are available at Bailey's General Store, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank and Sanibel Caf, as well as at the starting line. They can also be found online at www.sancapoptimist.org.

For more information, contact Randy Carson at 239-699-8739, Richard McCurry at 239-292-4631 or Dani Howard at 239-472-0836.
