June 11, 2018
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The SaniBells - a handbell ringing performance group - will host its first summer meeting on July 11 at 1 p.m. in the main sanctuary at the Sanibel Community Church.

Open to adults and high schoolers interested in learning a new musical skill, the meeting will cover holding the handbell, reading music, the history of handbell ringing and what is expected of a handbell ringer. The program is being led by Lee DePuy, director of music for Sanibel Community Church.

Participants must have some strength in their hand and wrist as they must be able to hold the bell upright. There are very small bells, which require very little strength, to very large bells and lots of sizes in-between. The ability to read music is also helpful.
