The seventh annual "Ding" Darling Wednesday Film Series will kick off its biweekly showings this winter with a schedule of seven films that explore natural facets from plastic impact and pythons to sea turtles and Jane Goodall.

First up on Jan. 9, "RiverBlue" examines the impact of the fashion industry on water quality. One of the season's highlights, "JANE," on March 6 will tell the story of Jane Goodall and her extraordinary work in the once male-dominated field of chimpanzee research.

The "Ding" Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge hosts the free showings in the Visitor & Education Center at the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, with sponsorship from the Sanibel-Captiva Beach Resorts.

The season's scheduled films are:

- Jan. 9: "RiverBlue"

- Jan. 23: "Untold Stories: Sanibel I"

- Feb. 6: "A Plastic Ocean"

- Feb. 20: "Saving Sea Turtles: Preventing Extinction"

- March 6: "Jane"

- March 20: "Invasion of the Giant Pythons"

- April 3: "Saving Atlantis"

All films begin at 1 p.m.; seating is limited and on a first-come basis.

A short discussion will follow each film to allow visitors to gain more from their documentary-viewing experience by listening to other people's points of view and analyzing what they just watched.
