America’s Boating Club to offer Boat Handling course

The America's Boating Club of Sanibel-Captiva will offer its six-week Boat Handling course starting on Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Harbour House at the St. Charles Yacht Club in Fort Myers.

Boat handling provides boating confidence and competence for safe and fun on-the-water adventures. Designed for sailors and power boaters alike, the course meets the needs of today's recreational boaters. Participants will have their skills honed in the following areas:

- Nautical Rules of the Road

- Docking and undocking: Slow-speed maneuvering

- Handling your boat underway

- Anchoring with assurance

- On-board emergencies: Preparation for handling common problems

- Knots and line handling

All sessions will be taught by Carl Schultz, a licensed Coast Guard captain and experienced boater.

The course cost is $60 for members and $120 for non-members.
