Unitarian Universalists of the Islands to meet

Dr. Miriam Levering will speak on "When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice in a World of Change" during the meeting of the Unitarian Universalists of the Islands, set for Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.

It will take place in Fellowship Hall at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ.

Levering taught religious studies at Harvard University, Bates College, Oberlin College, the University of Tennessee, McGill University in Montreal, and the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Her specialties are religion, gender and East Asian religions and philosophies.

Levering's talk will draw on the teachings of Pema Chodron, an American teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, and novelist Barbara Kingsolver's recent book, "Unsheltered."

The Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ is at 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
