Sanibel Island Fishing Club to host meeting

November 6, 2019
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The Sanibel Island Fishing Club will hold its monthly meeting on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, with a half-hour social to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The featured speaker will be fishing guide Capt. Joey Burnsed, with Capt. Joe's Charters. He joined his father's charter business when he graduated high school in 1999 and has been fishing the local island waters, as well as first mating for his father, since he was only 5. Burnsed also fishes in the majority of the local tournaments. He provides a daily fishing report and more at www.captivafishing.net.

Burnsed will discuss the fishing techniques, tackle and bait he uses to catch inshore and nearshore species such as redfish, snook, gag grouper, snapper and tarpon. Anyone interested in learning some great fishing tips will not want to miss this. He will bring some of his favorite "go to" rods and reels, which can be helpful for novice anglers wanting to know what kind of equipment holds up locally.
