Sanibel listed among confirmed DOH coronavirus cases

UPDATE: Lee County has 52 confirmed cases of COVID-19 - 47 Florida residents and five non-residents - of which two cases are recorded for the city of Sanibel, according to the Florida Department of Health.

In today's 5 p.m. update, the DOH reported that there are 1,977 confirmed cases in Florida, spread across 46 counties. There are 1,867 cases in Florida residents and 110 cases in non-residents. The numbers include Florida residents who have been diagnosed and isolated outside of the state.

In Lee County, there have been 578 tests reported, with 526 testing negative and 52 testing positive. According to the DOH, an additional 34 cases are awaiting state public health laboratory testing.

Lee County has 42 confirmed cases of COVID-19 - 37 Florida residents and five non-residents - of which one case is recorded for the city of Sanibel, according to the Florida Department of Health.

In today's 10 a.m. update, the DOH reported that there are 1,682 confirmed cases in Florida, spread across 46 counties. There are 1,583 cases in Florida residents and 99 cases in non-residents. In addition, the numbers include residents of Florida who have been diagnosed and isolated outside of the state.

In Lee County, there have been 367 tests reported, with 325 testing negative and 42 testing positive. According to the DOH, an additional 27 cases are awaiting state public health laboratory testing.

The following areas in Lee reported positive cases in Florida residents:

- Bonita Springs: 3

- Cape Coral: 5

- Estero: 2

- Fort Myers: 20

- Fort Myers Beach: 1

- Missing: 3*

- North Fort Myers: 2

- Sanibel: 1

The DOH is not permitted to provide specifics about cases.

"Demographic information is not provided by city as it is considered protected health information," Tammy Yzaguirre, public information officer at the Florida Department of Health in Lee County, said.

"We here at DOH-Lee and other local health departments are committed to providing as much information as possible to protect the public, as well as, protect the privacy of individuals being tested and monitored for COVID-19," she added. "Due to the nature of this unique virus, sharing specific information of how many people in a community have been tested, are currently under public health monitoring, where they sought medical treatment or their travel history could potentially release personal identifiable health information, especially in Florida's smaller communities."

In addition, the DOH reported that there have been three recorded deaths among Florida residents to date for Lee County, including a 77-year-old woman, a 77-year-old man and a 67-year-old man.
